The Advanced School Search is a tool within SportsRecruits that allows you to discover schools that fit all of the needs of a student-athlete! With access to every athletics program in the country, you can narrow down which schools offer what you are looking for socially, geographically, academically, and athletically.
Using the Advanced Search Tool
From the Activity Feed, navigate to the "Schools" tab. Select “Search” from the sidebar. If you already know what you are looking for, just type the school’s name into the search bar and the school will appear below.
For a more advanced search, add different criteria. Under location, search by distance from your home zip code or find schools in a particular region of the country. Under academics, select criteria based on academic selectivity, size, and test scores. You can even select specific majors, or more broad academic programs, that you may be interested in so that you can be sure the school provides you the opportunity to pursue your career interests.
In the athletics section, you choose from the three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, junior colleges, community colleges, and more. Select particular conferences like the Big 12, Mountain West, and NESCAC. With SportsRecruits, you can select as many or as few of these criteria as you’d like.
When you are finished, just click “See Results.” A list of schools will appear that fit your criteria. See where they fall geographically with the Google maps integration on the right-hand side of the screen.
If you have selected conflicted criteria, your search will not display any results. For example, if you search for a larger state university that is a Division II school in North Carolina and competes in the Big Ten, no schools will match that criteria. Big Ten is not a DII conference, and there are no Big Ten schools in the southeast region of the country.
At the top, you’ll see all the criteria you have selected. You can quickly & easily remove any of the filters you have chosen by clicking the “X.” During the recruiting process, it is helpful to broaden your search & cast a wide net at first. You can then narrow down the list based on the results that appear by adding more filters.
For the example above, you might try adding Division I colleges as criteria and choosing a larger region of the country.
College Landing Pages
If you want to find out more about a particular school while using the Advanced Search Tool click the drop-down arrow to see a menu with some quick facts. You can favorite and message a school right from this page, or just click on the school’s name to access a detailed breakdown of all of its information from US News and World Report. These landing pages include the college coaches that are on staff, athletic scholarship information, acceptance rates, demographics, majors offered, and more.
If you like what you read, you’ll want to add it to your Favorites List by clicking the "Heart" icon. You will then be able to see and keep track of that school right from your activity feed.
You can even message a school directly from the landing page. Click the "Blue Arrow" button, and the Messaging System will automatically compose a message to the coaching staff at that college. All you have to do is type your subject and the body of the email and send it along!
Remember to keep an open mind throughout your college recruiting process and pursue those schools that will be a good fit academically, athletically, and socially. The school search may introduce you to schools you have never heard of! Sometimes, the perfect fit for you may not be on the list of NCAA Division I schools that are winning national championships every year. Once you’ve built your favorites list, use the Favorites Page to stay organized!
