College preferences include your academic, athletic, geographic, and social preferences– all key attributes college coaches look for when searching for their next recruit. Keeping this information up to date boosts your visibility to college coaches and helps you appear in the right searches.
What Are College Preferences?
College preferences are a guided experience where student-athletes define what they’re looking for in a college across four* key areas:
- Academics: Intended major
- Athletics: Division or athletic association interests
- Social: Campus culture, student life, and values
- Geographic: States, climate, and distance from home
*The current experience includes academic and athletic preferences only. In the future, student-athletes will be able to add additional preferences.
These preferences are used by college coaches on SportsRecruits to identify athletes who align with their program’s recruiting goals.
How Do I Update My College Preferences?
Below are the following steps on how to update your preferences:
- Log in to your SportsRecruits account.
- Navigate to the School Search tab.
- Select Preferences from the left.
- Add or modify your preferences.
Are My Preferences Public?
No. Your college preferences are only visible to:
- Verified college coaches on SportsRecruits
- Your club staff (if you're on a team account)
And even then, visibility is limited:
College coaches can only see if you're interested in their division. They won’t know whether you’re considering other divisions.
Why Is It Important to Keep Them Up to Date?
College coaches are searching SportsRecruits every day for athletes who meet their program needs. Keeping your preferences up to date ensures:
- You appear in more targeted searches
- You’re recommended programs that match your goals
- You have a better chance of meaningful coach engagement
Pro Tip: Refreshing your preferences—even if they haven’t changed much—shows coaches you're active, engaged, and serious about your recruiting journey.
