Playlists are a dynamic video experience built specifically for recruiting, allowing student-athletes to compile, organize, and showcase their highlights with advanced editing and tracking features. Unlike traditional video uploads, Playlists provide deeper insights into how college coaches interact with your film and offer a more professional viewing experience.
Key Aspects of Playlists
For many years, student-athletes have been utilizing highlight reels as their main source of prompting college coaches to evaluate their abilities on the field or court. Playlists now provide student-athletes with the Some of the key differences between playlists and traditional highlight reels are:
- Clip-Level View Tracking: Know exactly which specific clips within a playlist a coach is watching.
- Skill Tags & Filters: Coaches can filter video content by specific play types (e.g., "Offense" or "Defense") to quickly find what they need.
- Isolation Effects: Use professional "spotlight" effects to identify yourself in a play (available for most sports).
- Isolation effects are available in Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Volleyball, Field Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Softball, Baseball, and Men’s and Women’s Basketball.
- Publish early and update often: Playlists are designed to be updated often, so you don’t have to wait until the end of the season to compile your plays.
- Get started with just a few clips and add more as the season progresses.
There are also several feature areas related to creating, managing, and viewing playlists:
- The Athlete Profile is where college coaches can view any of your published playlists. The pinned playlist will appear at the top of the Athlete Profile, and all other published playlists will appear in the “Film” section.
- The Athlete Video Library is where you can start the playlist creation process, select a playlist to edit, and manage existing playlists – choose a pinned playlist, determine the order of the playlists, and set them as visible/hidden on the Athlete Profile.
- In the clip editing tool, you can create clips of your best playlists from videos that you’ve added to your Athlete Video Library.
- In the Playlist Editor, you can compile and order clips. This allows you to make changes and preview your playlist before it’s published.
What is a Pinned Playlist?
The pinned playlist appears at the top of the Athlete Profile – it’s the first content college coaches will see. The other playlists will appear in the “Film” section of the Athlete Profile.
We recommend that athletes use the pinned playlist to compile their “Career Best Plays.” Coaches watch thousands of athletes, so maintaining a “Career Bests” playlist helps you capture their attention quickly and capitalize on the profile view.
Why Should I Use Playlists?
The playlist features were designed based on extensive research into how college coaches evaluate prospective recruits and what causes poor viewing experiences.
Our research uncovered key issues that prevent student-athletes from capitalizing on recruiting opportunities.
- Many student-athletes never finish creating their highlight reel because they wait until the end of the season.
- Playlists allow you to get started with just a few clips and add plays as the season progresses.
- Most traditional highlight reels and video uploads don’t provide context on the play type or situation, making the college coaches’ experience inconsistent and inefficient for evaluation.
- Playlists provide college coaches with skill tags, filters, and captions to create a consistent, complete, and effective evaluation experience.
Why Should I have Multiple Playlists?
Previously, student-athletes were limited to a single Pinned Playlist that could showcase their best career highlights on their Athlete Profiles. In addition to your Pinned Playlist, you can now create multiple playlists to categorize your journey:
- By Season: Showcase your growth from freshman to senior year.
- By Event: Group plays from specific tournaments or games.
- By Skill: Create separate playlists for different positions or roles ("Pitching" vs. "Hitting")
These additional playlists are a direct replacement for traditional highlight reels. They show coaches your progression over time and against specific competition.
College coaches review thousands of athletes, and playlists help quickly grab coaches’ attention so they review more of the profile – ensuring you get the most out of every profile view.
Having multiple playlists published on your profile helps streamline the recruiting process for college coaches and ensures that student-athletes navigate the recruiting process with more transparency.
How Will Playlists Appear on the Athlete Profile?
The Pinned Playlist appears at the top of the Athlete Profile – it’s the first content college coaches will see. Your other Playlists will appear in the “Film” section of the Athlete Profile.
The Pinned Playlist is a part of the Athlete Profile, meaning that when you press play, it will begin playing directly embedded. To watch the additional playlists in the Film section, click the playlist card to open the playlists in a modal video player.
When you haven’t published a playlist or set one as pinned, you will see an empty state description of the feature on your Profile Preview. It’s important to note that this empty state description is not visible to college coaches; it is only visible to you. You can dismiss the empty state description from your Profile Preview to see how your profile will appear to a college coach.
