The ability to see which college coaches viewed your profile is a key feature of your Pro account. When a college coach views your information, it is important you take the appropriate next steps. If you plan to reach out to this program, remember that your outreach should ALWAYS be thoughtful. This article outlines what we recommend to do after you receive a view!
Steps to Take After Receiving a View from a College Coach
-
Consult your advocates! Your club or high school coaches and your academic advisors are amazing resources to help you better understand whether a school or program is a realistic fit for you. Initiate conversations with these advocates if and when you receive a view from a college coach to ask them where they feel you might stand.
-
Ask yourself some of the questions below to determine if you and your family feel this school fits your wants and needs:
-
Have I taken the time to research this school and the athletic program?
-
Does this school meet my academic, athletic, geographic, and social goals and needs?
-
Academically, how do I match up to their requirements? Am I very far off, in line, or just slightly below?
-
Do I have any existing relationship with this coach, or have I contacted them before?
-
Has this coach already relayed to me that I am not a fit for their program?
-
-
Once you have gone through all of these steps, if this program is of true interest to you, we recommend sending a well-thought-out introductory email if you have not yet introduced yourself.
We do not advise reaching out to those college coaches immediately after receiving a view to say, "I saw you looked at my profile." Instead, if you have already sent an introduction message, here are some other reasons to be reaching out to college coaches.
We want to provide as much transparency to student-athletes and their families as possible so that they can make informed decisions throughout the recruiting process. We believe that transparency is one of the most crucial aspects of the recruiting process.
Student-Athlete Etiquette Surrounding Views
No matter the type of view you receive from a college coach, we do not advise you to send an email following the view, saying, “Thanks for viewing my profile!” or “I saw you viewed my video.” Regardless of whether you are reaching out to a college coach for the first time, providing an update, or seeing that a coach viewed your information, your outreach should ALWAYS be thoughtful.
Your first point of contact should always be an introductory message. In this message, you should let a college coach know who you are and why you are interested in their program. After that, you should reach out to college coaches with any updates about athletic and academic information, videos, events, etc. To learn about what to include in your email updates to coaches, check out What to Email a College Coach.
